How to Get More Money

Among all of the topics that come up during readings, one of the most common subjects is money. How do we get more money? How do we make it to the next payday? How do we pay off our debt? How do we stay out of debt? These are just some of the questions clients ask me about money. The answer varies from person to person, but through my readings I've started picking up on a pattern that I'd like to share with you.

First off, it's important to decide why we think more money will help us. If we're being crushed under a mountain of debt, more money will help us dig out way out. If we're trying to save up for a rainy day and bills keep piling up, we need more money to help cover all of tout expenses. Sometimes we may be tempted to want more money because we think that it will make all the bad feelings go away. Unfortunately, most of us know that isn't true, but think like that anyway. If you're living on welfare, working several jobs, and/or grinding yourself into oblivion just to get by, it's easy to think that money will solve all your problems. Even if money isn't the end-all solution, it can still help.

Alright, let's say we've figured out why having more money will help us out. What now? Almost any decent financial advisor would have us look through our expenses and see what can be cut. Gee, that subscription to DirectTV is nice, but it ultimately doesn't do much for me that Netflix couldn't do. Golly, do I really need fourteen pairs of shoes? These examples may be obvious to some, but to others who are feeling overwhelmed by debts, it's good to look at where all of your money is going. How much is being set aside? How much is being wasted? Where can you cut corners?

If we're not already working multiple jobs or trying to obtain income from multiple sources, then looking for opportunities like that will help us out. Jobs are opening up in droves and if we are having trouble just surviving, we should probably humble ourselves and take what we can get.

Now a lot of you are reading this because you've already cut as many corners as you can. You're working yourself to the bone to pay rent, insurance, necessities, and other important things. You're waiting for the secret, for the trick that tells you how to earn more money. I wish it was easy, but it's not. Luckily, however, it is fairly simple.

Set a goal.

Let's say we're $1000 in debt. The seemingly obvious goal would be to get out of debt, but what we really want is to stay out of debt. We take a look at our current income. For some of us, a simple restructuring of our accounts will help us knock out that $1000 in no time. It's not as easy for the rest of us. We'd have to pick a second, or maybe even a third job. We'd need to make huge sacrifices that diminishes our quality of life and makes living hard for those around us and those we're responsible for. Sometimes we're already making those sacrifices. We might be able to pay off this $1000 by selling some of our belongings, but that debt will come back eventually. We want to stay out of debt. That's our goal.

Having a goal is all well and good, but how do we implement it? How do we see it through?

What we need to accomplish our goal.

Let's get straight to it, shall we?

  1. Determination. Everyone has lost motivation and looked up "how to stay motivated" on the internet. Motivation is fickle. It's based on feeling and results and sometimes it takes too long for us to achieve our goal. Don't worry about being motivated. Focus on being determined.

  2. Awareness. Keep an eye out for opportunities. As we move towards our goal, our minds begin to change the way we think, helping us become more aware of things that will assist us along the way. As long as we are deliberately aware of this, we can more easily recognize when help approaches.

  3. Positive Attitude. It can't be stressed enough that stress is bad! Being pessimistic or negative is easy to do when we aren't seeing the results of our efforts, but we can't afford this kind of thinking. Positive thoughts have been proven to be far more powerful than negative ones.

  4. Focus. This is my personal Achilles Heel. I'm not that great at focusing, but I recognize how important it really is. As much as we should be aware of opportunities headed our way, we should also take note of all the distractions that deter us from our goal. Do we really need to watch this show tonight? Do we absolutely have to go to the bar? If it's not helping us, it's hurting us.

  5. Take a Break. This is different from a distraction. Taking a break is a deliberate moment where we unwind. This is crucial to keeping ourselves sane. This might sound like we're contradicting ourselves, but when we work hard, we need to play hard too. Don't let the breaks go too long, but don't go too long without one either. Unwind, regroup, and get back at it.

  6. Adapt. Sometimes our goals don't work out. Sometimes the things we are trying in order to achieve them are actually pushing us further away. Take a beat and reevaluate. Maybe it's not going the way we want, but we can still accomplish what we set out to do with a little compromise. Be ready and willing to adapt to the obstacles that we run into.

  7. Research. We don't know how to do everything. Sometimes we need more guidance than the average blog can provide. I you need wisdom, ask friends, family, around work, around town, the internet, and so on. Someone out there has just the right advice for your exact situation. (Or you can get a Tarot Reading with me and see what my cards tell you. Hint, hint.)

  8. Don't Sweat the Small Stuff. On our journey towards our goal we are going to encounter every obstacle you can think of. Some of them require research or adaptation, but others aren't a big deal. Some of the things we give up aren't actually that important. Remember that sacrifice is giving up something good for something better. Don't worry about things that don't matter in the long run. That kind of thinking doesn't keep us moving.

The things listed above can be applied to any goal. It's been exceptionally helpful for me and I know it can be helpful for you. If you want a more in-depth look at your financial future based on your current state of mind and being, schedule a reading with me and get peace of mind.

Thanks for reading and best of luck!

Peace be with you.
